Basilicata is a mountainous in southern Italy. It faces the Gulf of Taranto (Ionian Sea) to the southeast and the Gulf of Policastro (Tyrrhenian Sea) to the southwest and borders with Campania to the west, Puglia to the north and to the northeast and Calabria to the south: its borders. The region can be thought of as the "instep" of Italy, with Calabria functioning as the "toe" and Apulia the "heel".

Matera is an interesting town to visit where many scenes from the movie Passion of the Christ were filmed, also in Matera visitors can see the “Sassi”, the typical houses and churches dug into the “tufa” crag.

Maratea is a beautiful coastal town set in the mountain is the old town, steeping down towards the port, a great place to have lunch if you are in the area.
